This year, I was heartbroken to learn that a dear friend and colleague of mine is suffering from an aggressive form of lung cancer. It was made even worse by the fact that I'd spent the prior half hour complaining to her about my 'cold'... which turned out to just be hay-fever. Yet despite the battle she faces and the long road ahead, her resilience, positivity and smile is truly inspirational and a testament to the fighting spirit that will help her make this just a momentary 'blip' on life's radar. Just like her beloved Maroons in the recent State of Origin, it's game faces on and time to hit back against this thing...hard!
But this is a journey one should not do alone and everyone can play a part. It's for this reason that I'm taking part this year in the City2Surf, to raise money for the Australian Cancer Research Foundation. Now, the last time I ran for something was an election... which I lost... but if I have learnt anything it is that if she can fight through this battle, I sure as well can bloody get through 14kms this Sunday morning. I hope you can get behind me and help race towards blowing the full time whistle on cancer - once and for all.
