Hi! My name is Amanda Vlahos and in December 2016, at the age of 20, I was diagnosed with a brain tumour.
The first thing I did after I was diagnosed was google “brain tumour survival” – and that’s when I started to get really scared. The reality is that of the approximately 1600 Australians diagnosed with brain cancer annually, around 1200 die from the cancer. But perhaps the most worrying thing is that these survival rates have barely changed in 30 years.
While I was lucky and my brain tumour histology results indicated that my tumour was benign, I can’t help but think about my odds if it had been cancerous. So, ever since I received my results, I pledged that I would raise money for brain cancer.
I am inspired by the work of Cure Brain Cancer Foundation, who actively work to fund innovative research and bring clinical trials to Australia to give those affected with brain cancer access to new treatments. I want to support Cure Brain Cancer Foundation by raising money as part of my participation in the 2017 City2Surf. Please help me help them by giving whatever you can. Every dollar counts. You can donate by using the ‘Donate’ button.
The more people that know about Cure Brain Cancer Foundation, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot to me!
~ Amanda 😊
