My Story

"This isn't a letter to make you sad. The worst thing about me leaving is all the questions it leaves behind. The first thing I want you to know is that I didn't die. I just moved to another place.....(continued)" This was by far the most challenging letter that I have ever received and absolutely tore me apart inside. I would not wish this upon anyone but unfortunately this is becoming more and more common. This year Winston Bell and I are running in the city to surf in the aim to raise money for The Black Dog Institute which goes towards the invaluable research that they conduct towards understanding mental health disorders and prevention of the loss of life during crisis. One in five Australians will experience a mental illness in their lifetime but less than 50% seek professional help - often with tragic consequences. By running the City to surf I'm aiming to help raise awareness and further break down the barriers of social stigma surrounding Mental Health. This is something that I hold extremely close to my heart and any donation would be appreciated and will go such a long way. Also keep in mind. If you are concerned about someone, don’t be afraid to start a conversation with them and offer your support even if it's just going for coffee. Small acts like this go such a long way.

We've created this team because we want to make a difference!

For all Black Dog participants please Join our Team so we can run as one to stand up against the stigma surrounding Mental Health.

Your generosity will help Black Dog Institute to improve the lives of people impacted by mental illness and suicide.

Did you know that 1 in 5 Australians experiences mental illness in any given year, and about half of all people will experience mental health problems at some stage in their life? Despite being the ‘lucky country’, suicide is now our number one cause of death in young people – ahead of road accidents and cancer.

That’s why your support is so important to us. Your gift enables us to continue our ground breaking research, expand our education programs, as well as help us deliver new clinical treatments and online mental health tools.

Please help us by giving whatever you can using the 'Give Now' button. The more people that know about The 2017 City2Surf , the greater the impact, so please also spread the word by sharing our page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!
