Hello, my name is Luke, and this year I have decided to join the City2Surf to raise awareness for the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation.
Last year after finishing my degree I was shocked to discover that the person who I care about the most was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Luckily it was not cancerous. However, this is not the case for the 1600 Australians diagnosed with brain cancer annually. After researching it was alarming to find out that in Australia alone, one person dies from brain cancer every 7 hours. These people include children with brain cancer killing more children than any other disease in Australia.
Knowing all of this, I want to be a part of the movement that is helping fight against brain cancer. Currently, the 5-year survival rate for brain cancer is 20%. However, the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation is trying to increase this statistic to 50% by the year 2023. Nonetheless, brain cancer research receives less than 5% of federal government cancer research funding. Therefore, to achieve this goal we need support from as many people as possible.
So please join me in spreading the message and providing donations to:
No matter how small the donation, it will have an invaluable impact on providing a better future. Thank you.
