Amelia is now 3 & 1/2 years old, born with the a rare disease called Lymphatic Malformation.
Amelia was only 4 days old when she had her first surgery and many more following, including sclerotherapy, laser/ cobilation, tracheostomy, tonsillectomy, tongue reconstruction, multiple MRI's, 3 blood transfusions and too many to count general anaesthetics.
In fact Amelia will be having her 27th surgery on 22 June 2017.
Looking after Amelia is a full time job due to her tracheostomy and gastrostomy. Only Kenan and myself are trained to care for her and she has to have one of us by her side 24/7. We are 100% reliant on each other. I'm no longer able to work, which I miss a lot. Kenan owns and runs a carpet cleaning business (www.platinumcarpetcleaning.com.au), so if he doesn't work, he doesn't get paid, so he's working quite a bit lately.
Having a baby with special needs has changed our family significantly. It’s the constant worry about Amelia, 24/7 care, the added stress of being down to one income indefinitely, as well as caring for our other children.
Whilst Amelia is in hospital, we live as single parents: I stay with her at Westmead and Hubby looks after our two other children, Kayden and Camila, at home.
She is one tough cookie and has given us the true meaning of patience, compassion and unconditional love.
Our relationship with each of her Doctors is built on trust and we have complete faith in them caring for our daughter.
Amelia would not have the life she has today without the wonderful doctors and Nurses at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead. It's a long journey and at times very tough but having our children with us makes it all worth it and I feel I'm a better person for it.
I've joined a few hospital committees to try and make hospital a better place for the sick kids and their families.
Now as a family we are focusing on trying to help others and continue raising funds for the Children's Hospital at Westmead.
Would love for you to join "Team Amelia" and help us raise money for such a great cause!
